Surf forecast, what's on, what to skip. In your inbox before 8am every Monday.
Thursday is the standout, with clean offshore winds and overhead-plus swell. The week builds hard from mid-week and stays big through the weekend, so there's plenty of water moving around. No water temp data this week; it's mid-October, so a 4/3 is the call regardless.
Beginners. Monday and Tuesday are your only realistic days at La Sud. Monday offers waist-to-shoulder sets with a light cross-shore breeze, manageable if you pick your moment. Tuesday bumps up a touch but is still workable in the morning before the SSW wind builds. Wednesday onwards, the swell is overhead and the conditions turn messy. Stay out of the water from Wednesday through the weekend.
Intermediate. Tuesday morning at La Centrale is worth a look before the wind swings SSW and the swell starts stacking. Thursday has offshore winds and 2.9m sets, but that's a big, powerful day and you'll want to be surfing well before committing. Friday through Sunday: onshore and heavy, not worth it.
Experienced. Thursday is the one. Offshore SSE breeze, 2.9m sets at La Gravière with a 9-second period, punchy and powerful but not yet maxing. High tide is at 03:10 and 15:35, so the windows either side of the afternoon high give you the best shape. Friday and Saturday are double overhead-plus with onshore or cross-shore wind and gusts pushing 30–40 knots. Survivable for the right surfer, but not quality.
Thursday: high tide 03:10 · 15:35 · wind: light SSE offshore · water temp: no data, wear a 4/3
The email lands before 8am every Monday. One issue, then quiet until next week.
Wet week. Drizzle to start, proper rain and wind rolling in from Wednesday onwards, with Saturday looking the worst of it. Pack a waterproof you'll actually wear, not just one for the bag.
Le Rex listings didn't return this week. Check the programme directly for what's showing and when.
A busy week. The Sales Gosses festival runs across Thursday and Friday at Le Tube, with a punk-rock night at Black Flag on Saturday and a rock triple-bill in Seyresse on Thursday too.
Next up at Le Tube: Julien Clerc, Friday 30 October, €69, then Halloween Circus the night after.

La Nord Beach · sleeps 4 · €700–1,000 / week · Locations Vacances Hossegor Upper floor of a traditional Basque-Landes villa with a wooded garden. Two minutes to the beach on foot, which means you'll hear it at night too.
La Gravière Beach · sleeps 4 · €700–1,000 / week · Locations Vacances Hossegor Ground-floor flat in a similar Basque-Landes style villa, close to the ocean and named after the break out front. Good if you want to roll out of bed and check the surf without getting in a car.
Both are compact for four people. If you're travelling as two couples, La Nord's upper-floor position gives you a bit more separation from the garden below.
This week: Le Surfing for lunch. Order the tuna tataki, eat it on the sand with your wetsuit still damp. Post-surf energy, right on the beach. Worth knowing it closes for the season end of October, so this is one of the last chances to catch it. Around €25–40 a head.
