Not a great week. Wind is onshore every single day, which takes most of the shine off what could otherwise be a decent early-July swell. Monday's data is incomplete, so work from Tuesday onwards. Tuesday has the most size (up to 3m max at La Gravière), but it's messy and blown out. Things calm down as the week goes on, but so does the swell. Water temp data isn't available this week; it's summer, so a 3/2 or even a shorty should be fine.
Beginners: La Sud is workable Thursday and Friday. Waist-to-shoulder waves, lighter onshore wind, nothing scary. It's not clean, but it's manageable and there's enough push to have fun. Skip Tuesday and Wednesday entirely.
Intermediate: La Centrale won't be at its best this week. If you're going, Thursday morning before the sea breeze builds is your best shot. Expect chest-high sets at best, a bit of chop on the face.
Experienced: Tuesday has 2–3m sets at La Gravière with a 12-second NW swell, but the NNW wind is onshore and gusty. It'll be lumpy and hard to read. Worth a look if you're keen, but don't expect clean lines. Wednesday drops off and stays onshore through the weekend.

Patchy start to the week with a little drizzle Tuesday and Thursday, then it builds into a proper heatwave by the weekend — Saturday hits nearly 34°C with barely a breath of wind. Sun cream is the priority; a light layer for Tuesday evening is about it. Peak heat Saturday and Sunday, so early sessions are worth it before the beach gets busy.

World Ocean Series – Hossegor Classic 2026, 4 July. The Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series is back in Europe, and Hossegor is on the calendar. Details on format, athletes, and exact beach logistics aren't confirmed in what's been scraped yet. Worth keeping an eye on the official event page as the week progresses.
Also on the radar for Sunday 5 July: Custom SurfArt workshop with Peïo Artist, the self-described "peintre des surfeurs." Bring an old board and leave with something you'd actually hang on a wall. Run by the Save la Mermaid association. Booking required via the hossegor.fr agenda.

Pelote basque tournament, running through 2 July, Trinquet de Soorts-Hossegor. The summer tournament is well underway. Worth an hour if you've never watched it live. Fast, loud, and completely free to spectate.
Marché Saisonnier, Wednesday 1 Jul and Saturday 5 Jul, town centre, 9h–13h30. First proper summer market weeks. Tomatoes are in, peaches too. Gets busy by 11 on Saturdays.
Marché de Producteurs (Saturday), Saturday 4 Jul, Place du Trinquet, 8h–13h. Local producers only. Good for cheese, charcuterie, and whatever's ripe this week. First mention this month.
Les Halles Gourmandes, Friday 3 Jul, 18h–22h30. Street food evening, runs every Friday through the summer. Good option if you want to eat outside without booking anywhere.

Village apartment · residential Hossegor · sleeps 5 · from €1,050 / week · Locations Vacances Hossegor First floor of a villa under the pines, quiet neighbourhood. You're not walking to the beach from here, but you're also not listening to bar noise at midnight. Good base if the group wants calm evenings and doesn't mind driving to the surf.
This week: Le Surfing for lunch. Order the tuna tataki, eat it with sand between your toes. Classic post-surf stop right on the beach, and it earns that reputation. Open March to October only, so make the most of it while you're here. Around €25–40 a head.
