This week in Hossegor.

surf & conditions

Monday's the only clean-ish day this week. After that, a significant swell arrives Tuesday and hangs around through the weekend, but onshore winds the whole way through make it a messy, frustrating week for most. Water temp data isn't available this week, but it's late June so a 3/2 or even a shorty should be fine.

Beginners: Monday at La Sud is your window. Knee-to-thigh sets, light cross-shore wind from the north, nothing scary. High tide is at 05:04 and 17:19, so aim for mid-morning once the tide drops off. Tuesday onwards, the swell jumps to overhead-plus with onshore wind. Stay out of it.

Intermediate: Monday at La Centrale could work early, but the cross-shore wind means it won't be pretty. Tuesday through Sunday brings real size (4–6m on the bigger sets) with persistent onshore conditions. Not worth it unless you're comfortable in messy, powerful surf.

Experienced: Tuesday looks like the biggest day, with sets potentially reaching 6–8m at La Gravière. Onshore wind at 6 knots means it'll be rough and hard to read. If you're going out, go early before conditions deteriorate further. The rest of the week holds 3–4m with the same onshore pattern. Les Estagnots might organise slightly better, but don't expect clean lines.

Monday high tides: 05:04 and 17:19 · Wind: light northerly, cross-shore · Swell: 1–2m WNW at 8s · Water quality: omitted (off-season data)

weather

Overcast and mild to start the week, clearing properly by Friday with the weekend looking like the best of it — 27–32°C and barely any wind by Sunday. UV is high all week regardless of cloud cover, so don't skip the sunscreen. Evenings are warm enough to sit outside without a layer.

cinema: le rex

Version information is missing from the data this week, so it's not possible to confirm which films are screening in VO. Check the Le Rex listings directly before heading out.

live music: le tube + area

Nothing on at Le Tube this week, and the venue programme didn't return a season list either. Check Le Tube's listings directly if you're set on a gig.

where to stay

La Gravière apartment ocean-side · sleeps 4 · €700–1,000 / week · Locations Vacances Hossegor

Ground floor of a traditional Basque-Landes villa, close enough to La Gravière that you'll hear the surf if it's pumping. Fine for two couples; less so if anyone needs space to spread out.

Domaine Aïga apartment lake-side · sleeps 4 · €1,400–2,000 / week · Locations Vacances Hossegor

On the edge of the marine lake in a proper residence, so it's quiet at night and the setting is genuinely good. The beach is a drive or a long walk. Worth it if you're here for the lake as much as the ocean.

where to eat this week

This week: Le Surfing for lunch. Order the tuna tataki, eat it with sand between your toes. It's right on the beach, so go post-surf while you're still in that headspace. Open March to October only, so worth using while it's there. Around €25–40 a head.
