Issue 02 · Week of 1-7 June 2026

This week in Hossegor.

Surf forecast, what's on, what to skip. In your inbox before 8am every Monday.

surf & conditions

Sunday's the one to circle. A NE offshore cleans things up after a messy week of onshore wind, and the swell drops to a manageable 4–5m chest-to-head range. Everything before that is onshore and mostly unsurfable for anyone who cares about quality. No water temp data this week, but it's early June in the Landes: a 3/2 is fine, maybe a 4/3 if you run cold.

Beginners: Sit this week out, or stay on dry land and watch. Monday's already chest-to-overhead with onshore wind, and it only gets bigger mid-week. La Sud will be messy and intimidating all week until Sunday, when conditions improve but the swell is still too much for anyone learning. Wait for a smaller, cleaner week.

Intermediate: Thursday and Friday bring 4m-plus sets with onshore wind, so skip those entirely. Sunday at La Centrale is worth a look: chest-to-head sets, light offshore, and the swell is dropping. High tide is at 10:02, so aim for the two hours before or after. It won't be perfect, but it'll be surfable.

Experienced: Friday is borderline. Double-overhead sets at 8–10m with a cross-shore NNE wind at La Gravière: messy but potentially rideable if you know the break and can pick your moments. Sunday is the cleaner call: 4–5m sets, proper NE offshore, and the crowd will be thinner after a week of onshore junk. Les Estagnots worth checking too if Gravière is closing out.

Sunday 7 June · High tide 10:02 and 22:27 · Wind: light NE offshore · Water quality: omitted (off-season)

weather

Wet middle to the week: rain Tuesday and Thursday, with drizzle either side. Today's the best of the early days, and Saturday and Sunday look clean and warm, touching 26°C. Pack a waterproof for Tuesday through Friday, and something light for evenings all week.

cinema: le rex

No VO or VOSTFR screenings confirmed this week. Everything listed is VF or unconfirmed version.

Worth checking the Le Rex listings directly as the week progresses. VO versions sometimes get added late.

live music: le tube + area

Nothing confirmed at Le Tube for the week of 1–7 June. The season programme does have some good names coming up, though: Vianney, The Cure, Jul, Mylène Farmer, Christophe Willem, Aya Nakamura, and Matmatah are all listed. Dates aren't locked in yet. Check the Le Tube programme for updates.

surf culture & special events

Nothing falls within this week's window (1–7 June). The closest surf-relevant event is a Custom SurfArt workshop with Peïo Artist on 14 June, where you can bring an old board and turn it into a wall piece with the self-styled "peintre des surfeurs." Organised by Save la Mermaid. Worth bookmarking if you've got a ding-riddled shortboard gathering dust.

Further out: the Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series – Hossegor Classic lands on 4 July. Details are thin at this point but it's the same series that's been running competitive surfing events across Europe, and La Gravière is an obvious venue for it. Keep an eye on the WSL site as the draw gets closer.

where to stay

Ocean-front apartment, Hossegor Beach · sleeps 5 · €840 / week · Locations Vacances Hossegor Direct beach access from the residence, which means you'll hear the ocean at night. Second floor, so there's a view. Trade-off: it's a residence block, not a villa, and the beach crowd is right there.

Village apartment under the pines Residential quarter · sleeps 5 · €1,050 / week · Locations Vacances Hossegor First floor of a private villa, quiet neighbourhood, pine trees doing their thing. You're paying more for calm than for proximity. Better if you want to sleep in; not the one if you want to roll out of bed and into the surf.

where to eat this week

This week: Le Surfing for lunch. Order the tuna tataki, eat it with sand between your toes. It's a post-surf spot in the best sense, right on the beach, no pretension. Open March to October only, so worth using while it's here. Around €25–40 a head.
