Surf forecast, what's on, what to skip. In your inbox before 8am every Monday.
Sunday's the one to circle. Clean offshore conditions arrive late in the week, but Sunday (14th) is the standout: chest-to-head sets with a light east wind grooming things nicely. The rest of the week is onshore or cross-shore, with solid swell throughout but messy surfaces. A 3/2 is fine; the water's warming up but you'll be glad of it on longer sessions.
Beginners (La Sud): Sit this week out, or be very selective. Monday through Wednesday is onshore and chunky, not the place to be learning. If you're keen, Thursday's cross-shore NNE wind drops off a little and the swell eases to waist-to-shoulder. That's your window.
Intermediate (La Centrale): The swell is there all week, 3–4m on the bigger sets, but the wind ruins most of it. Sunday changes that. Chest-to-head, 12-second period, light offshore. Worth waiting for.
Experienced (La Gravière / Les Estagnots): Monday to Wednesday has size, up to 6m max, but it's onshore and likely closing out. Thursday and Friday are cross-shore and inconsistent. Sunday is the session: 4–5m sets, offshore, 12-second period. Get in early before the sea breeze builds.
Sunday 14 June: high tide 04:26 and 16:48, low tide 10:33 · light east offshore · no water temp data available this week
The email lands before 8am every Monday. One issue, then quiet until next week.
Drizzly start to the week, then it builds fast. By Friday it's touching 32°C and Sunday's forecast is 35°C, so this is a proper summer opener. Bring sun cream and water; evenings are warm enough to sit outside without a layer from Thursday on.
No VO or VOSTFR screenings confirmed this week. All three films are French-language.
Worth checking the Le Rex listings directly — showtimes for the later part of the week sometimes appear mid-Monday.
Nothing confirmed at Le Tube for the week of 8–14 June. The season programme has some decent names coming — Gael Faye, Feu! Chatterton, Gorillaz, The Cure among them — but dates aren't locked yet. Check the Le Tube programme for updates.
Two workshops this Sunday (14 Jun) from the Save la Mermaid association, both worth knowing about if you're travelling with kids or just like the idea of doing something with your hands.
Dessine ton/ta surfeur/se – 14 Jun, hosted by Akenelab. A drawing workshop: you sketch your surfer. Run by Save la Mermaid. No further time or price detail in the listing; check hossegor.fr to book.
Custom SurfArt with Peïo Artist – 14 Jun. Peïo is a local painter who's been doing surf portraiture for years. The workshop is about customising or upcycling a board into something you'd hang on a wall. Same organiser, same caveat on times: book via hossegor.fr for the details.
Further out, the Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series – Hossegor Classic lands on 4 Jul. No further detail in the listing yet, but it's worth flagging now if you're planning a July trip around surf competition. Keep an eye on the World Ocean Series site as the date gets closer.
Nothing else surf-specific this week. The July and September events (Little Festival, Quiksilver Festival) are on the radar but too far out to cover here yet.
Fêtes de la Plage, Friday 12 – Sunday 14 June, Hossegor beach. The annual beach festival kicks off the summer season proper. Three days of events on the sand. Worth being around for.
Red Bull King of the Mousse, Saturday 13 June, La Centrale. Foam board madness at one of the better beach breaks. Spectator-friendly and usually good fun to watch even if you're not competing.
Brocante, centre-ville d'Hossegor, Saturday 13 June, 8h–17h. Town-centre car boot, the decent kind. Furniture, boards, the odd piece of pine. Get there before 11 if you want first pick.
Petit Market au Jo&Joe, Friday 12 June, 17h–22h. Evening market at the Jo&Joe hostel. Local makers, food, relaxed atmosphere. Good option if you want something to do before dinner.
Pelote basque tournament, running through to 2 July, Trinquet de Soorts-Hossegor. If you've not seen a game yet, this is the window. Faster than it looks.
Only one property came back from the scrapers this week, and it's missing a price.
